Path following using GPS Vehicle Guidance System

Vehicle Guidance system

ABD has developed a Vehicle Guidance system that enables its Steering Robots to guide a vehicle, so that it follows a specified path along a road. The system is capable of accurately controlling the vehicle at high speeds, and high levels of lateral acceleration, so that handling manoeuvres can be performed with outstanding repeatability.

The path-following controller uses a GPS corrected motion pack installed within the vehicle to measure the path real-time, so that the necessary steering inputs can be computed. The path following system has been proven to give accurate and repeatable control in passenger cars, articulated trucks and buses.

The system can be used with motion packs supplied by Oxford Technical Solutions and Genesys and other motion packs can be integrated on request.

When ABD's steering robot is combined with accelerator and brake robots, accurate paths can be followed at controlled speeds time after time, lap after lap.
