About AB Dynamics

Anthony Best Dynamics supplies advanced testing systems to the global motor industry, for research and development and for production quality control.

At our facility in the UK, we design and manufacture specialised systems for:

■ Kinematics and compliance testing
■ Vehicle dynamics testing on the track
■ Development of vehicle safety systems
■ Vehicle Dynamics / Driver in Loop Simulation
■ Driver assistance system (ADAS) testing
■ Autonomous/ Driverless vehicle testing
■ Steering system testing and characterisation
■ Noise/vibration (NVH) testing of powertrain assemblies

As an acknowledged expert in the field of advanced testing technology, we offer novel engineering solutions to customers requiring new approaches to vehicle testing.

McLaren F1 development

Anthony Best Dynamics (ABD) was founded by Tony Best in 1982 with a vision to supply noise, vibration, and suspension engineering services to the automotive industry.

In the 1980s and 1990's ABD was involved in many consultancy projects including the design of the suspension of the McLaren F1 road car, and an active suspension system for Jaguar.

Early products developed include 'PLATO' end-of-line noise and vibration test systems that are used around the World to test vehicle drivelines.

In the 1990's it was becoming obvious that the UK automotive industry was declining and ABD decided to use the accumulated automotive expertise within the business to concentrate on supplying vehicle test equipment to automotive manufacturers and suppliers.

This led to the design and manufacture of the renowned Suspension Parameter measurement Machine (SPMM). The first SPMM was delivered to MIRA in the UK in 1995 now over 30 systems have been delivered to customers globally.

ABD supplied the first steering robot for quantitative vehicle testing on the track in 1998, and has now supplied over 500 driving robot systems around the world making us the number one supplier in this field.

ABD was an early pioneer of the use of an inertial GPS motion pack to control the path of a vehicle in 2001, and in 2007 was one of the first manufacturers to sell a system for testing vehicles on the track without a driver onboard - this is the award-winning Driverless Test System.

Recently the company has entered into partnership with Williams F1 to produce advanced Driving Simulators to allow the automotive customers Driver in Loop capabilities for vehicle dynamics modelling and the evaluation of ADAS technology.
